Jim's Biography

Jim Hallenbeck grew up in Catskill, NY. After majoring in Fine Arts at SUNY Plattsburgh, he transferred to Florida International University of Miami where he earned a BS in Art Education in December 1979. Jim was hired by IBM in September 1979 in Boca Raton, FL and transferred to Raleigh, NC in 1999. He retired from IBM as a vice president in September 2014 and worked at Lenovo through January 2015. Through the years during his IBM career he continued to paint as time allowed. Jim Hallenbeck is now beginning to pursue his life long dream of being artist and beginning February 2015 he has devoted himself to his artistic journey full time. Since then Jim has completed more than 95 paintings in his favorite medium of oil on canvas. The paintings include still lifes, a sunset series, landscapes, social settings, and local Raleigh landmarks. His approach is to represent each subject realistically, while at the same time to accentuate its bright colors.

Statement: My art has largely been of landscapes, cityscapes, and, at times, the people captured in these scenes. My approach in painting is to represent each subject realistically, while at the same time to accentuate its bright colors. I find my approach to painting to be one of deep introspection complete with a wide range of emotions - inner peace, happiness, honesty, and truth. In turn, I hope to communicate something to the viewer, to trigger an emotion, or to spark a memory that resonates on a very unique personal level.
